Where Can One Find Cheap Webcams For Mac
The Logitech C615 is a compact webcam that gives you great bang for your buck. Recording in 1080p, this little webcam has a 360-degree swivel mount, making it easy to find the perfect spot that works best for your desktop set up. With a built-in microphone and easy access to all of Logitech's supportive software, the C615 is easy on the bank account and doesn't leave you wanting more. If recording in 1080p is important to you, but you don't want to spend a lot of money, the C615 has got you covered. Best for people who don't need anything fancy, the Logitech C270 has a built-in stereo microphone that features noise cancellation to help deal with background noise, ensuring you always sound as clear as possible. It still records in HD, although it is only 720p. The is the best for most people in my opinion, and the user reviews seem to agree with me.
Its 78-degree angle means you can fit more than one person into the frame, and it records at 1080p resolution, which is as high as most people need. All external webcams offer some great benefits over the built-in webcams that come with your Mac. They are more versatile in terms of placement, and depending on which one you get, do a much better job of exposing its video, so you don't end up as some dark blob. Update September 2018: Swapped out the Logitech C310 for the Logitech C270 as our budget pick.

Video on your web page can come from a lot of different sources. One that gives you complete control, though, is direct from you own IP cameras. Internet protocol cameras (IP cameras for short) are popular items for any use where separate full-function video cameras are called for. Uses range from entertainment to security. IP cameras have replaced the older closed-circuit type of video camera for most purposes. This is because of their versatility and ease of access. IP cameras allow streaming video from the camera to any device capable of Internet access.

There are a few tricks to making use of this function to from an embedded player, however. We will cover this in detail, giving advice on how to do your own live IP camera streaming. What is an IP Camera? An is a video camera with an IP address.
The camera’s IP address functions just like the IP address of a laptop or desktop computer. That is, it allows the camera to be “found” over the Internet by any other device. The IP address is what allows an IP camera’s image to be downloaded by any device with Internet access.
For that reason, IP cameras don’t have to be connected by cables to a display, processor, or controller. There are many advantages to this. IP cameras can be moved around anywhere in the network they’re a part of. They can re-positioned, either permanently or temporarily, to cover different areas. They’re also designed to function on a wireless network.
Most networks today are wireless, so IP cameras are the preferred choice in most network applications. When the cameras are used as part of a security system, it’s possible to check the images from a remote location.
This includes from any device with Internet access, such as mobile devices like smart phones and tablets. Today’s IP cameras also feature Power over Ethernet (PoE). This feature lets them draw electric power from the same wireless network that controls them. Because of this these IP cameras don’t need a battery or other power supply. The only major downside to IP cameras is that the ability to access them over the Internet makes them potentially less secure.
This is especially true compared to closed-circuit cameras. There are steps that can be done for extra security, though. Encryption and other security measures block all but the most determined hacking efforts. For almost all purposes the security of IP cameras is enough. IP Cameras and Streaming Video IP cameras can be a functional part of your for broadcasting live video stream. Live IP camera streaming is real-time downloading of images from the cameras. This approach can benefit a website by offering of the camera’s content.
This is achieved from an embedded player on the site. IP cameras with streaming video are often preferred for security systems. They can valuable for many other applications as well, though.
This is especially true for broadcasts that might be running 24/7. These uses include:. Nature – IP cameras are an ideal solution for broadcasting out in the wild. Their small size and lack of multiple cables running make them ideal for wildlife streaming. Entertainment – A concert, theatrical performance, or any form of live entertainment that can benefit from the dynamic angles possible with IP cameras.
Conferences – Virtual conferences can be arranged using IP cameras to connect those who can’t be physically on location. Streaming video makes the conference possible in real time.
Education – IP cameras allow an instructor to connect with students over the Internet using streaming video. With flexible positioning, the camera can give an elevated view of the classroom or an event like a graduation. Development – Constructing a new monument? Improving existing infrastructure? IP cameras can be a great source to provide a constant feed into that development. This will allow interested parties to tune in at their convenience and see a live view of the progress. IP Camera Streaming With Web Sites Embedding a live streaming video in a web site is a two-step process.
First, an encoder takes the images from the IP camera and transmits them in readable form to a video hosting service such as DaCast. The second step is to take that video from the service and post it on a web page through embedding it from a video player. The encoding step is necessary because the default protocol IP cameras, called Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP), is designed for network use. RTSP is not designed for video streaming over the web. That is, it’s designed for streaming between a server and end use devices. RTSP is a good protocol for many purposes, but it doesn’t support embedding live streaming video in web pages.
Because of this, other software tools are needed employing other protocols. The most popular live streaming protocol, and what DaCast uses, is (RTMP). Encoding alternatives Not all encoders work well for live video streaming to a web page from an IP camera, even when they are designed with web pages in mind.
For example, Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder, which has the advantage of being free, is not compatible with IP cameras. Pro is a great encoding product for use in that middleman step that allows streaming live video from IP cameras. The encoder supports a good array of popular and well-made IP video cameras and microphones. Furthermore, it works on either PC or Mac operating platforms. All versions of Wirecast also support live camera switching and many production functions. All of this fits with the way that IP cameras are normally used, which involves more than one camera capturing more than one point of view or more than one scene. With Wirecast you can then switch back and forth between cameras and integrate all of them into a coherent video stream.
Other software can be found on the market for this purpose, such as VidblasterX. VidblasterX is cheaper than Wirecast and has some of the same functionality. However, it does not support the Mac platform, making it a bit more limited in application. Also has the ability to pick up IP camera signals and broadcast to DaCast.
Like VidblasterX, the encoder is cheaper than Wirecast, but is different in that it is available for both Mac and PC. Do You Need IP Cameras?
The answer to this question will of course depend on what you are doing in the way of video streaming. The big difference between an IP camera and a webcam is that the webcam depends on a dedicated computer to connect to the Internet.
The IP camera has its own built-in Internet capacity (including its own IP address). Furthermore, it doesn’t require a dedicated computer.

This makes the IP camera more flexible in terms of when, where, and how it can be installed and used. They are and vastly more convenient to mount and position as well. The latter might be your deciding factor in if an IP camera is right for you. If you are finding a webcam too restricting in positioning, it might be time to pursue an IP camera. IP cameras also can have higher picture quality than webcams. They also include their own internal memory storage rather than depending on external storage.

This makes them great for long running broadcasts. If you plan to stream 24/7 IP cameras can be the perfect solution. Uses can range from a dance floor that never sleeps, to a family of owls or even live coverage of a construction site. Summary This blog should help explain what IP cameras are. You should also know that your next step afterwards is selecting an encoder. Take note that many RTMP encoders will not work with an RTSP source like an IP camera. Look into if Wirecast Pro, VidblasterX or another encoder is right for you.
Once you have the encoder setup and receiving the IP camera single, it’s easy to by embedding a video player. Do you use IP cameras and have any extra tips or questions?
