Speedtest For Mac
Use Speedtest for quick, easy, one-click connection testing—accurate everywhere thanks to our global network. Millions of people each day go to Speedtest.net and use our Speedtest mobile apps to test their internet speed. Now, the most accurate and convenient way to test your speed lives in your macOS menu bar. Get your ping, download, and upload speeds within seconds - Real-time graphs show connection consistency - Troubleshoot or verify the speed you were promised - Track prior tests with detailed reporting - Easily share your results. 1.3 Fixes some bugs and crashes, primarily affecting Yosemite users. 1.2 Greetings! This is a big release that contains lots of changes based on your feedback.
The app now runs in dock mode by default, with menubar mode as an option. 16(!) additional languages. Packet loss and jitter now displayed on result details.
Download your results as a CSV. We now detect whether you’re on a wired or wifi connection, and display which connection method was used in result detail views.

Some really pretty graphs (if we do say so ourselves). And of course, additional bug fixes and improvements. If you rely on Speedtest to diagnose connectivity issues and keep your Internet service provider and carriers honest, we'd be thrilled if you would leave us some feedback in the Mac App Store. Thanks and happy testing!.

1.1 Oct 3, 2016. JG in SB V1.4 Has Bugs - NOW FIXED!!! This is a fantastic app. The major bugs disussed below were fixed by the developer only a day after they were reported. I appreciate their super-fast attention to this. Best speed testing app out there and also the prettiest interface IMHO. I love this app and have used it for a longtime.
The most recentupdate has some obvious bugs that I can;t beleive they did not catch before releasingthis to the public. You used ot be abe to calibrate the dial so that.for example.if your connections are generally in the range of 0-100 mbps, you could set the top end of the dial to 100. Now it is set to 500 and there’s no way to change it. But the new “added feature” of this current release is that the indicater needle on the dial now points in the 180 degree opposite direction of the measurement.
So if your speed is being measured as 30,the needle points to the exact other side of th dial and says soething like 400. If your speed is 95, the needle point back at like 0 or 5. How do software engineers let stuff out the door like this?

I’m still rating this a 3 because I like this app so much, but these bugs need to be addressed FAST. Developer Response Hello, Sorry about that. Odd one that didn't show up in the test build. We submitted an update with a fix, which should be available soon. Sorry again, and thanks for using Speedtest.

RobtAndr Webmaster Review I have been designing websites since 1981 Yes, I am THAT old. I have been using SpeedTest since about 1990 and have found that it returns reliable results. Not consistent RELIABLE.
There is a difference. There are any number of factors that can affect your upload and download speeds, but this will at least allow you to get a realistic overview of your situation. It needs to be noted that as with a chain, speed is only as fast as its fastest component. There are slow websites, slow computers, and more importantly slow routers.
Speed is also affected by others using your network, games or programs that are active, and even TSR programs (Terminate and Stay Resident) that you may not even think of. If you are NOT getting the results you expect, check some of these weak links. I have not used THIS app yet. I am only downloading it at this moment, but I would bet good money that it is just as stable as their program has been for these past 30 years that I have been a loyal follower. Developer Response You're absolutely correct– well said. We give YOU five stars!

Rich890M Just notice that you had a Mac Desktop app!! I have been a longtime Ookla Speedtest user for many moons. I retired from IBM in 2008 with 30 years of working with computers/networks Speedtest has been my go to network test for as long as I can remember. I always found that depending on your web browser you could get different results and its far better to have a local run application to cut out as much of noise from applications to get a truer picture of what your results are. This app is well put together and the options it gives you are just what is needed with no extra fluff. The response is quick and the reporting is reliable, free from all the overhead of the browser and any cache etc that can and would be in the way.
The options of saving your test along with running it in the menu bar and haveing the capability of uploading it to about 23 different places (depending on your Mac’s configuration) listed under your System Preferences/Extensions/Share Menu You still have the option of selecting where you want to test to. If is set automaticly to the closest point from you ISP.
The graphical interface showing in a line graph of both incoming and outgoing testing shows how smooth or dirty you results can be. With showing a more flatline giving you the cleaner results of your ISP.

We believe that it's a conflict of interest when Internet service providers operate their own speed tests. A third party opinion is necessary and the provider shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the process. When providers host their own speed tests they eliminate the variables that you're here to test. Namely the Internet route itself. This test is unbiased, it tests and grades all providers on the same criteria. They want you to think your connection is running perfectly. But is it really?
And to compare your internet speed. Other speed tests, especially tests offered by your Internet provider try to eliminate routing factors. This can make your connection appear faster than it really is. Truthfully, do you want to know how fast your connection is within your providers network or do you want to know how fast it is to the locations where the websites you visit are being hosted? TestMy.net is not a best case scenario connection test and will test your Internet under real world conditions.
